Dr Anneli Knight

Dr Anneli Knight is a writer, journalist, and business writing trainer and consultant. She joined the Festival board in 2014. Anneli has two decades of writing experience spanning journalistic, legal, academic, corporate, online, fiction and long-form non-fiction forms.

Anneli left a career in law and finance to become a staff reporter at Sydney Morning Herald, later going freelance – taking off to write, travel, study and live between Melbourne, the Kimberley region and Byron Bay as she filed media-commissioned blogs and travel features from her swag. Her various projects include co-authoring Flirting with Finance (Fairfax Books), contributing to Holiday Goddess Handbag Guide (Harper Collins), editing speaker talks for TEDxByronBay, conducting interviews across Australia for Stolen Generations’ Testimonies, volunteering for Indigenous Community Volunteers, co-founding social venture 10thousandgirl to empower women economically, and writing for Byron’s community-owned renewable energy retailer Enova. She has been invited to speak at events including the Walkley Foundation annual conference and a private luncheon at TEDxSydney.

Anneli has a PhD in creative writing and has taught writing and developed writing programs for university subjects, writers’ festivals and corporate clients, and most recently through her business Eloquence.

She’s an avid reader of fiction as well as books on the art and science of writing, and she loves interviewing authors at writers’ festivals
