Performing writer Miles Merrill brought poetry slams to Australia from his home-town Chicago. He is now the driving force for spoken-word programs, events and projects in Australia. Merrill toured with Saul Williams and Shane Koyczan, hosted an ABC TV special on poetry slams, co-wrote and co-directed a show in Sydney Festival, performed solo at the Sydney Opera House and created the spoken-word festivals – Night Words and Story Fest.
Merrill is director of the literary arts organization Word Travels and founder of the international performing writers’ program: Australian Poetry Slam. Internationally, Merrill has performed in such places as Krakow’s Audio Art Festival, at writer’s festivals in Ubud, Vancouver, Calgary, Beijing and regional China and at Australian festivals in: Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Darwin and Adelaide. He publishes text, video and audio but is best experienced live.
