How do you inject your short story with an extra burst of freshness? Get your hands dirty in this workshop that will help you craft an engaging story using the techniques of writers from many storytelling cultures.
Human beings are storytelling creatures. While it is true that anyone can write stories, few can write stories that enchant us and keep us wanting more.
Fresh from a sold-out workshop at this year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival, Roanna’s hands-on workshop will help you craft an engaging short story or turn your already-existing story into an interesting and illuminating work.
We will till the terrain of the short story, be inspired by the techniques of writers from different storytelling cultures across the world, and play with language, character and structure to rewild your short story. We will aim to build writerly toolkits to help us take apart some well-known stories, find out what makes them work, and then put together our own stories in new and interesting ways. Come prepared to do lots of writing.
