Krystal De Napoli is a Gomeroi author and astrophysicist devoted to the advocacy of Indigenous knowledges and equity in STEM. Her first book Astronomy: Sky Country is co-authored with Karlie Noon and explores the significance of astronomy in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems. After completing her Bachelor of Science at Monash University, she is undertaking an Honours degree in astrophysics determining star formation rates in galaxies through radio data.
As a passionate science communicator, she regularly appears on radio and television to discuss STEM and Indigenous science. Krystal is the host of the weekly radio program, Indigenuity, on 102.7 FM Triple R where she holds conversations with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge holders to platform their ingenuity. She has presented for the ABC, RRR, BeTV, and 3CR, as well as featuring in and co-producing the BBC’s radio documentary ‘Emu in the Sky’.
As an educator she has worked with tertiary and secondary institutions to create courses on Aboriginal science, most notably working to create and deliver Monash University’s inaugural Indigenous science course, SCI2030: Indigenous Science. She has also curated a national public database on Indigenous science for the Australian Council of Deans of Science.
