Byron Writers Festival is delighted to announce it has received a pledge of $1M from the Vasudhara Fund. The gift, to be paid over the next ten years, will contribute to the ongoing viability of the Festival and support the continued presentation of women writers and First Nations authors.
“This incredible gift comes at a critical time for Byron Writers Festival. More than 70% of our income each year is derived from ticket sales and private support. As we rebuild post-pandemic and in the current economic climate, this generous pledge is a vital lifeline to ensure this iconic event can continue,” said Zoe Pollock, Byron Writers Festival CEO & Artistic Director.
“The Vasudhara Fund has values that align to and support the aims of Byron Writers Festival to connect writers with their readers and to ensure First Nations storytellers and women writers are featured prominently. Through the support they have given this year we have been able to extend complimentary tickets to 50 First Nations community members to attend this year’s festival. The $1M pledge unlocks incredible potential to extend the work of making the festival more accessible. Without donations, big and small, Byron Writers Festival would not be possible, and we are so grateful to our supporters and the Vasudhara Fund for demonstrating the power of philanthropy in our Northern Rivers community.”
The Vasudhara Fund is focused on supporting early-stage innovative and creative social impact projects, in both the not-for-profit and social enterprise worlds.
